102.9 'House Band' contest this Friday!

SO...this Friday we'll be competing in 102.9's 'House Band' contest @ The BBC in Milwaukee. If you've been listening to the 102.9 at all in the last week, there's a very good chance you heard the radio spot for the competition (which features our track 'Slave' as part of its background music...very nice of them to throw that in).

We're hoping to walk away as the victorious band, but we need your help to do that. The winning band is chosen solely off audience vote, so we're counting on the WMO faithful to help move us on. If we do move on, we'll be playing in the final round on October 30th. Regardless of how THAT might turn out, if we move on from the 9th, we're guaranteed studio time, which would be a HUGE help for us. We've got a cache of songs ready to be recorded...but we've been waiting for the right opportunity to get that process started. Moving on in the contest could help open the floodgates there, so we hope to see you out!

Webcast

We had a blast at WMSE last night playing some songs. You've got to tune in to 91.7 on Tuesday nights to hear the great local stuff they play...its a well run show. If you didn't catch the set, here's what we played:
Run
Still Alive
Daybreak
Now or Never
Burning
Slave (Fool For Your Love)

We hope to have the audio/video from the performance & interview up shortly.

Scatterbrain

What is it about summer that makes me get all these crazy ideas? I seriously get creative ADD, just bouncing between thoughts and projects. Hard to tell if any are good right now when they're all half-baked, but I think there's some potential. Plus, I put one big project to rest yesterday by finally finishing Zelda...at least the band doesn't have to compete with that now. ;)

I'm excited for the next 3 weeks with the band...we've got practice tomorrow, a gig on Friday, WMSE Live/Local radio performance on the following Tuesday, a Fox 6 Morning Show appearance on the following Monday, and that brings us to the Collective Soul show. Good stuff! Hope Dan can get some new recording stuff out too somewhere along the line. I'm off to enjoy my evening and catch up with a friend in town...see ya later.

New month, new blog

I don't think I've really taken the whole 'blog' thing by the horns. I only assume the average blogger writes more than once a month...but then, when have I been average?

The band had a great weekend in PDC two weekends ago...it was a blast. We were, unfortunately "band minus one", since Paul was on his honeymoon in Mexico. I know, priorities, right?! Anyway, it was a great time, probably better than Paul. Or maybe just close, anyway...hope to be back there next year for Prairiefest.

We've got some new songs and stuff brewing...among them 'Slave (Fool For Your Love)' and 'Shadows Remain'. Both really strong in my opinion, but I may be biased there. The few times we've played Slave out we've gotten a great response from it. In a setlist that sometimes feels like its got one too many 'listening' songs, its got a great pop beat throughout it, so people usually bust a move for it. Hoping to debut Shadows at the Isenroo gig coming up.

Other than that...band news lately has been the release of 'Now or Never', our latest recording, and a nice preshow gig for Collective Soul & Safetysuit. Hope you can enjoy both of those! Hopefully you'll hear from me before August!

Awake and rise...

Ok, its been a while. Oh well. We had a few shows, did a little of this, little of that. Recorded some new stuff, so that's cool! Now or Never, What Are You Waiting For, Daybreak, and Release the Lines will all be ready shortly. Hopefully NoN and WAYWF could be up early next week. Anyway, I'm excited about how they're all sounding. Paul really put some good keyboard stuff on NoN and WAYWF, and as for Daybreak?....yeah, its got gongs. Gongs of DOOM.

Anyway, its back to practice this week, with starting up a tune I've been working on for the last 4 years, Shadows Remain. I'm really excited about the lyrics, which I think are some of the better ones I've written. We're challenging Kirk again with a bunch of time sig/meter changes too, so that's always fun.

Well I'm off to play some guitar, and then possibly some Guitar Hero. Yeah, I know...I feel dirty when I play it, but I can't help it. Maybe I should just stick to Zelda....

Newness

Hey. Blog time.

Days are starting to get longer, there's snow/sleet/rain crap on the ground, and I'm getting stir crazy. Must be Febuary in Wisconsin. I can tell spring is right around the corner, and with it comes that feeling of newness and activity. It's personally translating into band life for me, as I've been on a songwriting spree as of late. Good stuff too...keeping Kirk busy with some odd time sigs, Dan's busting out his slide, Adam's taking instrumental melodies, and...who knows what Peej is doing on that keyboard. Sounds like Lunatic Fringe. Er, not the new tunes, just the effect....anyway... Oh, and don't underestimate the power of beans in a can. Basically what I'm getting at is a new kind of energy behind the songwriting and rehersing, and its a refreshing feeling. We're looking forward to recording and debuting this stuff. We've got another month of writing to go before we hit the stage again, so no telling how many new ones we'll try out.

Fun at the BBC

Had a blast this weekend at the BBC. Seriously fun stuff. A good friend of the band, Brandon Dusseau, was there to take some awesome pics. I'll post a few in the photos gallery. So, bigtime thanks to him! Thanks too to FM102.1, who was more than supportive this weekend by having us on w/ Kramp and Adler Friday morning, and playing 'Still Alive' on The Scene on Sunday night.

I was pretty encouraged after Friday nights show...the crowd was awesome (thanks to all who came out), and so were the other bands, Revolush and Echoes of Empire. It was so easy to just play and enjoy playing...that's what live shows should be for bands. No worrying about the PA or anything else, just get up there and play some music! The weekend was a good springboard to go back to writing and recording for the next month, to really round out what we hope will become our first album's-worth of material. We're all really excited in the latest tunes and where the musical direction is headed. To that point, we're closing in on some new tracks to share!

We'll be posting some new show information very soon, so stay tuned for that. I'll leave you with some pics from the show!

Pre-gig electricity

Hey, just excited for the gig tomorrow and needed to post. Also excited about visiting Kramp and Adler next month on 102.1. They're good potatoes.

I'm currently reading the graphic novel 'Watchmen' right now...pretty good stuff. I knew nothing about this story, but it was just lent to me and I'm really enjoying it. Can't wait to see where it goes. I guess I'll have to go see the movie when it comes out in March, just to say the book was better...

The end is nigh.

Hope to see ya tomorrow night at Linnemann's. We have shirts now! You know, for sale!

2009, here we come

Ok, now we're talking. Gigs on the shows page, music on the site (well, Myspace at least)...starting to look (more importantly, sound) like a band, huh? We're as giddy as schoolgirls. Especially Sara...who happens to actually BE a schoolgirl. Crazy. We've got our FIRST SHOW EVER coming up this Saturday at Liquor Sweets. Besides being a cool venue, it's also the 1st anniversary of the place, so they're going to have two stages going with bands all night, and will probably be making sure everyone leaves feeling better than when they came in. We're on from 10-11 on the main stage, with Bellevue Suite following.

Well...its a new year, 2009 is here. For me, I always get a bit reflective and optimistic around this time of year, as I'm sure many people do. Its amazing how much can change in a year. As a band, its been cool to look back on just the 3-4 short months we've been together. A lot of musical and personal growth in that short time, and we've got some good songs to show for it. Can't wait to see what the new year has in store for us. Here's to a great 2009.
